RESEARCH

Blamedenial is looking for guest writers – if you are interested please contact j@blamedenial.co.uk

I am looking to broaden the opinions expressed here and anyone that wants to contribute is welcome. Below is a list of some topics I want to research, but should you have any further topics that you believe need to be looked into please do not hesitate to contact me:

Narconon – is their loss AA’s gain?

Why does AA feel the need to silence doubters?

AA and the First Amendment; does the state enforce a religion that is in direct conflict with the constitution?

“Do the Steps or Die”. How is this slogan represented within the program and its literature?

Does AA’s notion of powerlessness lead to learned helplessness? And if it does, is there evidence to prove this?

Do people that question this program achieve abstinence simply because they ‘waste’ their time attempting to prove this program wrong?

Does AA’s belief that it is the only way close the door on research for perhaps more effective methods of treating this condition? If so, do you believe that ‘alcoholism’ is a disease? If not, what do you conclude it is?

Confession; does it have a role in the treatment of ‘addiction’?

‘For all the amends I have to make, I have a question; for whose sake?’ Discuss.

Does someone who leaves AA only to question the program have a right to doubt it if they continue to make mistakes?

The question of whether AA is a cult or not is unimportant when considering the question of whether AA is effective or not. Do you agree?

Do alternatives to AA help to prove that AA is not the only way bearing in mind that AA claims to be the only way?

‘The soul is cheap.” What part does spirituality play in getting clean/sober?

Is ‘recovery’ a choice?

‘Hi my name is James and I am an addict.’ Does the addict have to define people in order for them to get ‘well’ or is this label self-defeating?

Any other suggestions are welcome.
